The Truth behind Diabetes
Some common misconceptions about diabetes and uncovering the truth around
them. An infographics that shows some statistics and the Truth Behind Diabetes.
No matter
how many useful resources there are on the internet, many misconceptions
surround a well known disease. As my team did research for our diabetes guide,
we saw this to be true for diabetes also. There are two big misconceptions that
we saw over and over again and we felt it was important to provide the facts
about them.
The first
misconception surrounds the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Many
believe that these are similar forms, when they are actually very different.
Type 1
diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the pancreas is unable to produce the
insulin hormone. Although some refer to it as juvenile diabetes, the truth is
that this form of diabetes can develop at any age. Type 2 diabetes occurs when
the body becomes insulin resistant and is unable to produce enough insulin to
maintain normal blood sugar levels. Although this is often referred to as adult
onset diabetes, children can develop Type 2 diabetes as well. Genetic and
lifestyle factors play a strong role in determining whether one develops Type 2
diabetes. These two factors don’t play a significant role in determining
whether one develops Type 1 diabetes.
Another big misconception is that both forms of diabetes are reversible.
The American
Diabetes Association estimates that a majority of people with diabetes, roughly
95%, have Type 2. People with Type 2 diabetes can reduce, or even eliminate
their need for insulin with lifestyle changes that include proper eating
habits, regular exercise and maintaining an optimal weight. However, the
disease never really goes away. Those with Type 1 diabetes will require insulin
until a cure is found.
These are
some common misconceptions surrounding diabetes that can be hurtful to those
who have the disease. Those with the disease don’t appreciate general
stereotypes and it’s important to be respectful of their condition and their
wishes. Knowing the truth can also help you diagnose or notice the disease in
yourself, family or friends quicker. Early detection of diabetes increases the
chances of maintaining a productive and healthy life even with the disease.
Before
sharing or acting on any information about a medical condition, it’s important
to know the facts behind the disease. It is extremely important to consult a
medical doctor before you take any action. Information on this site or in this
article is of a general nature and a trained medical professional should be
consulted before any medical action is taken.

blood-sugar levels for Diabetics. Currently, we are performing trials in
relation to the “super-natent” present in these products in the control of
