Monsanto and the EPA swore that the genetically engineered corn would only harm insects. The Bt-toxin produced inside the plant would be completely destroyed in the human digestive system and would not have any impact at all on consumers, they claimed. Alas, they’ve been proven wrong on that account as well, because not only is Bt corn producing resistant “super-pests,” researchers have also found that the Bt-toxin can indeed wreak havoc on human health. Bt-Toxin Now Found in Many People’s Blood! Last year, doctors at Sherbrooke University Hospital in Quebec found Bt-toxin in the blood of: • 93% of pregnant women tested • 80% of umbilical blood in their babies, and • 67% of non-pregnant women The study authors speculate that the Bt toxin was likely consumed in the normal diet of the Canadian middle class—which makes sense when you consider that genetically engineered corn is present in the vast majority of all processed foods and drinks in the form of high fructose ...
Cabbage can provide you with some special cholesterol-lowering benefits if you will cook it by steaming. The fiber-related components in cabbage do a better job of binding together with bile acids in your digestive tract when they’ve been steamed. When this binding process takes place, it’s easier for bile acids to be excreted, and the result is a lowering of your cholesterol levels. Raw cabbage still has cholesterol-lowering ability, just not as much as steamed cabbage. Researchers now realize that different types of cabbage (red, green, and Savoy) contain different patterns of glucosinolates. This new knowledge means that your broadest health benefits from cabbage are likely to come from inclusion of all varieties in your diet. Cabbage in general—but also Savoy cabbage in particular—turns out to be an especially good source of sinigrin. Sinigrin is one of the cabbage glucosinolates that has received special attention in cancer prevention research. The sinigrin in cabbage can be con...
90% of breast-fed children get higher IQ points than those who are formula fed. 90% of babies carry a specific genes needed to digest breast milk fats into polyunsaturated fatty acids that develop the brain. Those babies end up with more IQ points. This research study was done in England and New Zealand in 2007 and included more than 3,000 children. Infant-Formula Industry: Unethical Tactics In summer 2007, The Health and Human Services Department ran an ad campaign showing health risks for infants who are not breast-fed. Soon the infant-formula industry, through lobbying, was able to force the Health and Human Services Department to replace its ads by new ones that do not mention any risks and only emphasize benefits of breast feeding. We will discuss on the benefits of breast feeding & probiotics in later blogs.
